Praise for neighbour after Telford house fire
A quick-thinking neighbour helped stop a serious blaze breaking out at a house in Telford after hearing a fire alarm sounding.
It was the first of two house fires in the Muxton area of Telford over the weekend and started at about 1.30pm on Saturday.
Firefighters praised the actions of the woman, who heard her next door neighbour's alarm sounding in Winchester Drive, Muxton.
Crew manager Tim Hughes, of Telford Central fire station, said: "She peered through the kitchen window, could see a pan of food on the lit hob but realised no-one was in, so called the fire brigade."
Firefighters from Telford and Wellington said the pan had not caught fire.
Mr Hughes said: "The occupiers of the house had decided to go somewhere else for the weekend because they had no electricity."
Shortly before 4.15pm yesterday, fire crews were called to a home in Fieldhouse Drive in Muxton after a tumble dryer caught fire.
Appliances from Telford and Tweedale attended and removed the tumble dryer to a safe location before putting out the blaze by 5pm.
