Telford pensioner in bungalow fire drama
A pensioner who left food unattended on his cooker had to be rescued from his kitchen after a fire broke out.
The 75-year-old man, who has not been named, was pulled from his bungalow in Lawton Farm Way in Leegomery, Telford, shortly before midnight on Saturday.
Firefighters took half an hour to bring the blaze under control and performed first aid on the man, who was treated for smoke inhalation at the Princess Royal Hospital.
Adam Matthews, watch manager for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service based at Wellington, said the fire had started after food had been left on a cooker unattended.
A smoke alarm prevented the incident from becoming more serious.
Firefighters were also called to a fire in Shrewsbury just before 1pm yesterday after a blaze broke out in a first floor bedroom.
A crew from Shrewsbury got the fire in Underdale Road under control within half an hour. The family was outside when the crew arrived.
