The Eddie Stobart 42-ton lorry was left gutted following the blaze between junctions 8 and 9 of the motorway just after 3pm yesterday.

The northbound carriageway between junction 7 for Great Barr and junction 9 for Walsall had to be closed.

At 4.55pm the fire crews left the scene and two lanes of the M6 were reopened.

But six hours after the fire broke out there were still long queues on the M6 and M5 northbound up to the incident.

The driver of the lorry escaped the fire unhurt.
