Cyclist is critically injured in crash near Leominster

A cyclist in his 80s was today fighting for his life in hospital with serious head injuries after being knocked over by a car.

The pensioner was hit by a silver Ford Focus on the B4361 at Elms Green near Leominster at 9.15am yesterday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The cyclist suffered serious head injuries and received emergency treatment at the scene. He was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Major Trauma Unit in Birmingham for further emergency treatment. The doctor travelled on board the air ambulance to continue treatment en-route to hospital."

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said the B4361 was closed until 2.20pm following the accident.
