Firefighters have been called out seven times since the end of February to grass fires near the underpass in Whitchurch Drive, Wellington.

Fire crime officer Derek Taylor said children were believed to be starting the fires.

He said: "While crews are dealing with them, if anything else happens resources have to go from another area and that could cost someone's life."

The latest fire happened on Wednesday.
