New Shropshire fire chief is named

The new chief fire officer of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has today been named.

John Redmond, the current Deputy Chief Fire officer, will take over in July from Paul Raymond, who is retiring.

Mr Redmond said: "I am looking forward to working with the fire authority in continuing to provide the excellent service that Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is renowned for."

He will start his new job on July 8.

Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority chairman, Councillor Stuart West, said: "I would like to congratulate John on his appointment and wish him every success."

Originally from Wallasey on Merseyside, John gained a degree in geography at the University of Hull in 1982. He joined London Fire Brigade in 1983 and spent 12 years in the capital in a variety of roles before moving to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in 1995.

While in Cheshire, he gained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Liverpool University working as a part time student.

He undertook a wide range of responsibilities as head of department including training, fire prevention and also operational delivery.

He joined Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2010 on appointment as Deputy Chief Fire officer and is currently responsible for service delivery.
