Warm weathers sees spate of Shropshire grass fires

Warm weather has seen a number of open air fires across Shropshire.

Gorse and undergrowth caught fire at Doddington, near Clee Hill, at 5.30am today. A fire crew from Cleobury Mortimer put the flames out within 15 minutes.

Rubbish caught fire in Hills Lane Drive, Madeley, at 10pm and a crew from Tweedale put it out in under 10 minutes.

A camp fire was extinguished at Haughmond Hill, Uffington, Shrewsbury at about 9.30pm. Earlier, a wheelie bin caught fire at Wildwood, Woodside, Telford.

At 7.30pm the fire service received reports of a patch of grass on fire at Innage Lane, Bridgnorth, but it was out on arrival.

Another area of grass and undergrowth caught fire in Squirrel Bank Bridgnorth at 6pm.

And about 20 sq m of grass was alight in Station Road, Minsterley, yesterday.
