Drivers delayed as tree branch blocks road in heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall led to part of a tree falling across both lanes of a main road in Shropshire.
Drivers along the A458 between Much Wenlock and Ironbridge suffered long tailbacks while several of them tried to move the fallen branch.
Postwoman Ange Cook was the first to discover the problem. She said: "Another tree fell a bit further along this road a couple of weeks ago and I got caught up in that too, my work will think I am jinxed."
Several other motorists got out of their cars to clear the tree from one side of the road to allow the traffic to begin flowing.
Ms Cook remained to direct traffic until the police arrived at around 2.30pm yesterday.
Shropshire Council spokesman Gareth Proffitt said: "The council's contractors were sent out to sort out the problem. It was cleared by 3pm."
