A crew from Telford Central assisted the RSPCA in retrieving the bird from an overhead telegraph cable in Corfton, near Craven Arms.

The buzzard had become stuck on the cable by its wing, and was taken to Cuan House Wildlife Rescue in Much Wenlock.

Nick Davis, crew manager at Telford Central station, said: "We were originally called out for the aerial ladder platform but we couldn't use that so we used a nine-metre ladder and a couple of fire fighters went up and brought the bird back down.

"It was taken to a local rescue centre by the RSPCA."

Megan Morris-Jones, from Cuan House Wildlife Rescue, said: "He is quiet and exhausted.

"We don't know how long he was up there, the RSPCA said he could have been there all night, and he had been flapping trying to get away so he is very tired.

"We have given him some pain killers and treated him for stress and now he is wrapped up in some warm blankets and he is under a heater now, so he is just resting.

"Rest is probably all he needs now. Thankfully, there is not a break in the wing, there is a hole in the soft tissue which is probably how he got trapped."
