Adrian Owen, 33, died after being hit by the animal on his family farm in Whitchurch.

Mr Owen was well known in the Mid Wales area, having farmed at Sychlyn, Pools Quay and Lower Varchoel, near Guilsfield.

David Jones, his former Guilsfield neighbour, has spoken of his shock at his death and said he will be sorely missed.

He said: "It was an incredible sad loss.

"He was someone who was making a great name for himself in farming circles and would have gone on to make a greater name for himself I am sure.

"He was someone who his parents could have been proud of him, his grandparents could have been proud of him, his whole family could have been proud.

"He was one of the most hard-working people I have known.

"You would see him turn up in the field at 10 at night and he would plough all night. He lived for farm working.

"Time did not seem to mean anything to him. If the weather was right to cut grass then he would cut grass all night and would harvest it the next day. He was that sort of guy."

Mr Jones added: "My thoughts are with his family at what must be a terrible time."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the farm shortly before 1.15pm last Tuesday.

A paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic care support officer in a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended the scene.

Chris Kowalik, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, added: "Crews administered advanced life support at the scene and during the helicopter flight to the University of North Staffordshire, which had been put on alert.

"Despite those best efforts, he was confirmed dead at the hospital."

An inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday by Shropshire Coroner John Ellery in Shrewsbury.
