Woman airlifted as crash closes road

A woman had to be airlifted to hospital following a two-vehicle crash which closed a busy section of a Shropshire road .

The collision, which involved a BMW and Volkswagen Golf, happened at around 12.45pm on the A41 at Hinstock, near Market Drayton.

The female driver of one of the vehicles was airlifted to hospital. Her injuries are unknown but they are not thought to be life threatening.

The male driver of the other car was taken to hospital via ambulance.

Both drivers had to be freed from their vehicles by firefighters with holmatro cutting equipment.

One fire crew from Market Drayton, one from Hodnet and the rescue tender from Wellington attended the crash.

Motorists faced delays of over an hour and a half with police not reopening the road until 2.20pm.
