Man is rescued from river weir near Shrewsbury

A man was rescued from the river by emergency services near Shrewsbury.

The man was helped out of the water by swift water technicians in the fire service boat after falling into the river.

The rescue took place at the weir near Weir Road, Hanwood, at about 6.30pm yesterday.

The man was examined by paramedics after being brought to the bank.

One fire engine from Minsterley, two from Shrewsbury and the rescue unit, also from Shrewsbury, were called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called out just before 6.10pm.

"The water rescue unit from Shrewsbury rescued a male from the weir and he was assessed by ambulance personnel."

Crews were called away from the scene shortly before 6.40pm.
