Driver dies after wrong-way Aston Expressway smash
A man injured when driving the wrong-way on Birmingham's Aston Expressway has died, police said today.
The silver Rover MG collided with two other vehicles after driving against the flow of outbound traffic leaving Birmingham city centre.
A 43-year-old Rover driver, who is from Birmingham, was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Two other drivers were taken to hospital and discharged after the incident, which happened at around 12.30pm and forced the complete closure of the route for three hours.
Pc Damian Gibson, from the force's Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We can confirm that one car travelled up the Expressway the wrong way against the flow of outbound traffic and we are still trying to ascertain why this was.
"I am appealing for anyone in the area at the time of the collision or before the collision in the Gravelly Hill interchange area and who saw a silver Rover MG to contact us on 101."
