The man had to be cut free from his car after the crash in Church Street in the centre of Cleobury Mortimer at about 11am.

Four fire crews were called to the accident and used Holmatro equipment to make space to get the man out of the vehicle.

The road was blocked while emergency services worked at the scene.

Jamie Arrowsmith, speaking for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "At 10.56am we were called to the Church Street, near the market hall in Cleobury Mortimer.

"It was a car in collision with a house.

"The patient was a man in his eighties who was cut from the car.

"His injuries were not too serious, he had some cuts to his hands and face and was complaining of some back pain.

"He was immobilised, given pain relief and airlifted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital."

Mr Arrowsmith said the reason for being airlifted was more to do with the man's age and location than the suspected seriousness of his injuries.
