Missing patient from Royal Shrewsbury Hospital sparked large scale police search

A large scale police search was launched this morning after a pensioner went missing from his bed at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in the early hours of the morning.

Melvyn Searles, 69, from Newport, was last seen on his ward at about 2.45am this morning which sparked a search of the hospital and grounds, which was was undertaken by police and dog handlers.

However, police became increasingly concerned for the welfare of Mr Searles and a more intensive search of the surrounding area was launched, involving the police helicopter.

Fortunately Mr Searles was found just before 11am and returned to hospital.
