A woman and her young son had to be evacuated this morning after a fire broke out at their Telford home.
The blaze started in the cavity wall of the house on Sutton Wood Court in Sutton Hill.
A passer-by reportedly saw smoke billowing from the roof of the house and raised the alarm, at which point the occupier called Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Fortunately, the pair were able to escape uninjured at about 6.45am.
About four fire engines were on the scene before 8am, with specialist crews and equipment called from Wellington and Shrewsbury.
Adam Matthews, incident monitoring officer, said: "The occupier was alerted by a passer by that smoke was coming from the roof.
"The occupier left the property and called us.
"When crews arrived they saw smoke issuing from the eaves of the property.
"It was found to be a fire in the cavity walls. Crews are now busy exploring the cavity wall and checking for charring and fire in the space.
"We still don't know what the cause was but it is not thought to be deliberate."
Crews were using a snake eye camera, a flexible camera that can be sent into the cavity wall to explore for damage.
The aerial ladder platform and the rescue tender were mobilised from Shrewsbury, with extra crews sent Telford Central, Tweedale and Wellington.
Operations and specialist advisor officers were in attendance.
