Man, 73, dies after crash on A5 near Llangollen

An elderly man has died in hospital following a three-vehicle crash on a stretch of the A5 near Llangollen.

The 73-year-old man, from Ruabon, was one of the drivers involved in the crash which happened at about 6.50pm on Thursday, on the A5 between the Halton Roundabout and Ruabon.

The elderly man was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital in a "critical condition", however today North Wales Police have confirmed he died on Monday.

The collision resulted in the road having to be closed in both directions for about six hours.

North Wales Police continue to appeal for witnesses and anybody with information is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101, quoting reference number U156113.

Three patients were taken to hospital following the crash. Firefighters had to cut one person free from one of the vehicles.
