Man killed in Newport crash named

The man killed in a crash at Newport has been named as Barry James Thomas from Bridgnorth.

The 64-year-old, of Hermitage Close, died in the two-car smash happened just before 7am yesterday on the A518 Newport to Stafford road, about half a mile from Newport and close to the Stafford Roundabout junction with the A41.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene along with a paramedic area support officer and the aircrew from the Midlands Air Ambulance at Cosford, including a trauma doctor, who responded in a car.

Police officers and fire crews were also in attendance.

An investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is underway.

Mr Thomas was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa when it was involved in a collision with a blue Peugeot.

The male driver of the Peugeot was taken to hospital in Shrewsbury for treatment to minor injuries.

Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 90 of October 20.
