A man went into the Co-operative on Cabin Lane and demanded money from the cashier, threatening her with a knife.

He stole an amount of cash from the till and left the building at about 10.45pm on Sunday night.

No-one was injured but the cashier and her colleague, also female, were shocked by the incident.

The offender is described as a white male, 5ft 8ins to 6ft tall, wearing a dark hooded jacket with the hood pulled over his head and part of his face, dark jeans, shoes and gloves.

Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or noticed anyone acting suspiciously earlier in the evening.

Det Sgt Oliver Ewels, from Shrewsbury CID, said: "The incident did not last very long and, fortunately, no-one was injured. We are keen to trace the offender as soon as possible, however, and would welcome any information which would help our investigation. We are keeping an open mind as to whether it is linked to any other incident."

The robbery comes a week after armed robbers threatened two shop assistants with knives at another Co-op store in the town.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org quoting incident 661S of October 23.
