Wrekin Retail Park tragedy: Tributes paid to woman who died on car park

Floral tributes have been left at the scene where a woman tragically died after being hit by a van on Wrekin Retail Park in Telford.

The collision happened outside the Sports Direct shop at about 10.35am on Tuesday and involved a blue VW van.

The woman, who was in her 70s, died at the scene.

Tributes have been paid on the Shropshire Star's Facebook page from people all across the town.

Maggie Skeffington-Merriman said: "So very sad to hear this. I was over there at the time. My sincere condolences go out to this poor lady's family at this tragic time."

Martin Taylor said: "Deepest sympathies go out to her family."

Johanna Mulloy wrote: "What awful news. My sympathy goes to her family. X"

Councillor Shaun Davies, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, wrote: "Awful news from Wrekin Retail Park. Thoughts with family and friends of the lady involved."

Andrew Buckley wrote: "Today my thoughts are with the family of the lady who sadly died after being in an RTC in the car park of the Wrekin Retail Park."

The entrance to the retail park was initially closed to drivers following the collision.

A sign saying "police accident" was put up near the Tesco Extra petrol station.

Traffic in Whitchurch Drive was brought to a standstill between the Ketley Brook roundabout and the M54, as well as surrounding roads.
