A second settee has been dumped at the side of the road at a Shropshire beauty spot in the space of a month.

The fresh fly-tipping has been met with outrage from the Friends of Clee Hill Forum, a community group formed to tackle issues in the rural area.

George Cummings, chairman of the group, said it had been left just inches from the carriageway.

He said: "It's still very much a beauty spot there, the number of people who come there for the view – you can see the Malverns and into Wales from there. It's one smallish bed-settee this time. We've no idea who left it there, as with the other one there are no identifying features.

"Words fail me. These people don't realise the damage they are causing to the area – and what kind of example they're setting to the future generation who see them just dumping things like this."

He said this time Shropshire Council had agreed to take it away as it was close to the highway.

In previous cases the fly-tipping was on private or parish council land to could be costly to remove.

He said; "It's not the first time we've had things like this fly-tipped, we've had things like mattresses dumped there in the past.

"It seems to come in spasms – if you had asked me four months ago I'd have said we were pretty much on top of it, but then it started to increase again.

"The thing is that it's not really much further to the rubbish dump at Craven Arms, but I suppose then they might have to pay something.

Anthony Pryor, vice chairman of the friends group, previously flagged up two big black chairs at Titterstone car park, and said it was a "growing but unnecessary" problem on Clee Hill as there were charitable groups locally who would take away unwanted furniture.

It was possible the fly-tippers may have come from outside the local area, he said.
