Firefighters rushed to the Raven Hotel in Barrow Street, Much Wenlock at just before 6.45pm on Friday.

Two crews were sent out from Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock and stayed in the area for about an hour and a half to ensure the flames didn't reignite.

Kirk Haywood, owner of the Raven, said: "It was made to look worse than it was because of the two fire crews – it looked very dramatic.

"There was no damage at all because it's a stainless steel flu liner.

"The fire marshall just told me to have it cleaned twice a year instead of once, and we've had the wood tested and have had a chimney sweep here already."

Despite the fire, the pub stayed open during the incident.

"We've got doors everywhere, so people were quite happy in the lounge while the firefighters were here," Mr Haywood said.

"Customers were carrying on as if it was a normal night.

"They checked we were safe and carried on with what they had to do, but it entertained our ladies who got to see the firefighters walking around."

Fire crews stayed on the scene until 8.19pm.
