Man in van hurls racist abuse at bystander in Ironbridge

A man in a van shouted racist abuse at a man as he stood in the street in Ironbridge.

The victim, in his 40s, was stood next to his car opposite the memorial statue in High Street when a silver or light coloured van drove past.

A passenger in the van leaned out of the window and shouted racially abusive words at the man before it drove off in the direction of Broseley.

The van, possibly a Peugeot or Citroen with a number plate starting 'BL11', returned a short time later and both occupants were seen to stare at the victim as he turned his car around in the road.

The driver and passenger are both described as being aged 20 to 30-years-old with mousy coloured shoulder length hair.

PC Jade Hirons of West Mercia Police said: "Nobody should have to tolerate victimisation because of who they are and tackling hate crime is one of our key priorities.

"All reports will be thoroughly investigated and support will be offered to victims."

Anyone who saw the incident is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 593s of January 21.
