Firefighters and RSPCA rescue terrified dog trapped under Telford shed for four hours
A terrified terrier was trapped under a Telford garden shed for more than four hours before being rescued by firefighters and the RSPCA.
The little dog is thought to have gone down a hole chasing something and then found himself stuck. Now the animal charity is trying to trace its owner.
It was incessant barking that alerted the householder who went down the garden in Park Road, Donnington, to investigate yesterday evening.
The man called out the RSPCA at about 10pm when he realised there was a dog under his shed.
An inspector went out to the house and spent almost two hours trying to retrieve the white and black terrier herself, removing a panel from the shed to try to get to it.
She called on the services of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service at 12.40am.
Watch manager, Craig Jackson from Wellington fire station said a crew went out to help.
"At first we thought we would have to take the shed down but it was joined up to a lot of other sheds and would have caused a lot of damage.
"So we took up part of the shed floor and found quite a big hole underneath. We tried to coax the dog out but it was obviously terrified and was quiet snappy. Eventually the RSPCA inspector managed to coax it out and she took it away for safekeeping."
The dog was rescued at 2am.
Mr Jackson said if anyone had lost a terrier they should contact the RSPCA.
"We think it had gone down the hole chasing something."
