Shropshire girl sets out to clean up lockdown waste near Market Drayton
A forward-thinking eight-year-old led her own litter pick near her home and filled three bags with rubbish.
Ella White from near Market Drayton wanted to do something about the scourge of litter around her area.
Ella's mother Charlotte Glanville said: "Out on a walk last week Ella said to me 'look at all this litter mum, why do people throw rubbish on the floor? It can harm animals'.
"I didn't quite know what to reply as I'm not sure why people litter – laziness maybe?
"Ella then asked if we could buy a litter picker, so when I got home I searched the internet for a kids' litter picker.
"I came across one that came with gloves and high-vis equipment so I ordered it.
"Today we went out and Ella collected three bags of rubbish. She's very proud and asked if we can walk a bit further next time to get some more. Her words were: 'We will keep our local area clean mum'."
The waste includes disposable masks. Charlotte said that Ella now wants to go and collect litter every night.
