Region sees a spike in the installation of solar panels on people's homes but many can't afford the costs
More than one in 20 households in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin have solar panels installed on their roofs, new figures show.
It comes as the number of people across the UK exploring alternative energy sources like solar power has soared this year, with more people installing solar panels in March than in any month since December 2015.
However with the cost of installing the panels out of reach for many, Friends of the Earth has called on the Government to give incentives to help people switch to green energy.
The latest MCS Data Dashboard data which tracks the adoption of small-scale renewable installations in the UK shows 9,043 households in Shropshire and 3,432 households in Telford and Wrekin had solar panels installed on their property by MCS-certified companies as of June 9.
It means 6.7 per cent of households in Shropshire and 4.7 per cent area in Telford and Wrekin have solar power technology in their homes.
