The Perseids are widely considered to be the best meteor shower each year - and we're in for a good show if the clouds ever let off.

While the shower is active from mid-July to the end of August, the annual event peaks this weekend, meaning lucky spotters could be looking at up to 100 meteors every hour.

Viewing conditions are particularly good this year because the moon is in its last quarter phase, meaning little interference from a bright moon.

But the ongoing bout of unseasonable weather might make things a little more difficult.
