Mower is cutting edge

McConnel's new folding flail mower has been cutting a fine line since its introduction to the market earlier this year.

The UK machinery manufacturer unveiled the 5.0 Flex Flail in response to demands for a more durable yet high quality finishing mower for fine turf applications.

Bringing its heavy-duty agricultural heritage to the fore, the Shropshire company's award winning engineers applied their expertise to the development of a robust machine that delivers a fine-cut finish for local authority, leisure, horticulture, golf and contractor markets.

The five metre cutting width machine with three folding flail heads has generated considerable interest and has proved a popular addition to the range. The fine-cut quality, operational flexibility and compact transport position has also prompted unexpected overseas demand.

The Flex Flail is an incredibly robust and hard-working mower with the capability to cut at the top end of the quality spectrum, explained McConnel general manager Christian Davies.

"For McConnel this is a slight deviation into the groundscare sector, but it actually makes perfect sense given our tradition of manufacturing the hardest working and top performing machines for agricultural, amenity and contractor markets," he added.

Operating off a 540 rpm PTO from a minimum 50hp tractor, the mower's cutting heights range from 150mm down to 25mm with a 150mm cutting deck overlap. To offset the heavier-duty construction, large floatation tyres minimise the machine's impact on turf.

The adjustable drawbar machine which has a transport width of just 2.5m, is fitted with 116 toughened flails and has 12 different cutting adjustments. It also comes with a range of flail head options.
