Suffolk sheep fly at sale

A capacity crowd from throughout the UK and Europe witnessed a flying trade at the Crosemanor sale, with 24 animals reaching four figures and a top price of 5,600gn. This was for A59, a three-crop daughter of the great Crosemanor breeding ewe, N24.

This was for A59, a three-crop daughter of the great Crosemanor breeding ewe, N24. She was sold to AJ Crook, Bishops flock, of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Two daughters of A59 were respectively the top price gimmer - sold for 2,600gn to WH Sinnett, Stockton flock, Worcestershire - and the top price one-crop ewe, selling for 3,100gn to Daffyd G Jones, Frongoy flock, of Aberystwyth.

Another highlight came late in the sale when the five-crop ewe, X57 realised 2,200gn to Dr Ernie Logan, Holestone flock, of Northern Ireland. This ewe also came from the N24 family, with her dam being ET sister to Crosemanor Commandeur.

Within the UK, sheep were sold to flocks from as far off as Aberdeen and the Isle of White, and further afield five were sold to Northern Ireland, 22 to Eire, 14 to Holland, three to Belgium and 13 to Italy.

Robyn Hulme commented: "I was delighted to have so much support from friends and customers, many of whom have done business with us for the past 25 years.

"I am also confident that by retaining all this year's ewe lambs and a number of embryos that the Crosemanor flock - which was founded by my father, Stan, 54 years ago - will go from strength to strength in the future in the names of my two sons, Nick and James."
