The Red House farm sold for £6.35 million

Red House Farm in Aberhafesp, near Newtown, was placed on the open market in mid-June to gauge buyer interest with a guide price of £5 million. But the price tag was smashed at auction.

Officials at Halls, which organised the sale, said they were delighted with the sale of the farm, which went to Bryn Owen and families who did not wish to be identified any further.

The farm was owned by the late Arthur Davies, who died in 2011 and was a dairy farmer and stock breeder at the farm for most of his life.

James Evans, from Halls, said it was rare for a farm this size to come on the market and he was pleased with how the auction had gone.

Mr Evans said: "It is a 452-acre livestock, dairy and arable farm in the Severn Valley and it sold for £6,350,000 by private auction to Bryn Owen and families after a period of advertising on the open market to identify all interested parties.

"Farms of this size rarely come to market within the region and the new buyers do not wish to reveal any more details."

Following Mr Davies's death, his herd of pedigree Holsteins was sold off by his family.

When it went on the market, Mr Evans had said the farm could be sold as one lot or split into eight depending on interest.

He said that with the range of residential properties, the size, type and quality of the modern farm buildings and land, they had anticipated interest from a diverse range of prospective buyers.
