Historic farming and shooting estate goes on market for £3 million
A farming and shooting estate, which has been in the same family for 116 years, has been put up for sale for £3 million.
The Dolanog Estate in the Vyrnwy Valley, near Welshpool, was leased by Rudolf Jackson, the great great uncle of the current owners in 1898, but after he died from a bee sting it was bought by his family.
It has remained in the Jackson family ever since, but has now come up for sale through Shrewsbury chartered surveyors firm Berrys.
"We are delighted to be marketing the Dolanog Estate which offers a rare opportunity to purchase a fine agricultural and sporting estate steeped in history," said Chris Jones, from the surveyor's firm.
"This is a very good and extensive agricultural and sporting estate and we are anticipating a great deal of interest from farmers, shooting enthusiasts and investors."
The 550.9 acre estate centres on two farms, The Plas and The Mill, and is bordered by the River Vyrnwy. It is made up of 403.9 acres of pasture land and 147 acres of woodland.
It also includes a hydro electric dam, which was installed in 1921 when electricity was supplied to just five houses, the church and chapel in the village.
Substantial
Moreover, it has rights over another 478 acres and shooting rights on adjoining land for another 700 acres.
Mr Jones added: "In 1898 Rudolf Jackson, a great great uncle of the current Vendors, took a 21-year lease for the sporting rights over a substantial area at Dolanog.
"He died on the estate following a bee sting and the lease subsequently terminated but family members purchased the estate and continued with the shooting.
"The estate has a long history with game books recording the shooting as far back as 1903.
"The shooting has been managed by just four keepers since 1898, and the current keeper is entering his 37th season overseeing the shooting on the estate.
"The location of the drives on the estate ensures that shooting offers a great opportunity to appreciate the magnificent countryside and far-reaching views."
The guide price of £3 million is for the whole estate, but it is also being considered for sale in parts as required.
