Unit for 14,000 chickens approved near Welshpool
A 14,000-bird poultry rearing unit will be built in Mid Wales, after planners gave it the go-ahead.
Powys County Council has approved the plans for the unit at Plas Dwpa, Berriew, near Welshpool.
The farm is run by TAJ Hughes & Co and is a beef, arable and poultry rearing farm, covering 140 acres of rented land.
It already has a poultry-rearing facility, which the new unit will extend so free range hens can be added.
The unit will house 14,000 birds and will replace the existing smaller unit.
The application says: "The birds are brought in as young females and will remain in the production unit for some 16 weeks.
"After this time the clock is removed and the whole building fully cleaned down internally and the new flock introduced to restart the rearing production cycle."
