Shropshire rally is highlight of action-packed month
Shropshire YFC has had an action-packed month, writes Ed Potter. A highlight for everyone was the county rally at The Cave Farm near Bridgnorth by kind permission of the Giles family.
On the day more than 600 members from across the county converged on The Cave to take part in all manner of competitions. The on-stage activities provided an afternoon of entertainment for the crowd. The day's competitions were rounded off by the Total Wipeout course which resulted in all those taking part getting very wet along with a lot of hilarity for all those dry spectators.
In the end it was Brown Clee Young Farmers that emerged the victors and swept the board, winning nearly all the silverware they could.
In the five smallest clubs section, it was Much Wenlock that steamed ahead, gaining over half the points in their section. A great achievement by all the clubs. The evening was rounded off by the annual rally dance.
Sticking with competitions, the following weekend all those Shropshire teams which had made the national finals headed to Staffordshire County Show ground to compete against the best in the country in all thing from public speaking, clay pigeon shooting, cake icing and fence erecting.
What a day it was for Shropshire YFC – not only was it a great achievement having so many members and teams reach the national finals, the county came away with three first places in the senior debating, intermediate Just a Minute, and the radio show live promoting all the best aspects of Young Farmers.
Congratulations to all those members who have worked so hard for many months and weeks to do so well. It has been a very long time since Shropshire YFC has performed so well in the national finals.
Shropshire YFC held its second farm walk organised by our sponsors Shropshire Farm Vets and Alltech Eco2 and our agri discussion group. There was a fantastic turnout of members, friends and parents who travelled over the border to Welshpool to see some very innovative farming indeed.
On Monday five members and myself travel to London for a tour of the Houses of Parliament. We hope this will be very interesting, especially given the current political circumstances in which Westminster finds itself. Hopefully by then things will have settled down.
