Six of the best tops young farmers' great year
Members of Dorrington Young Farmers Club were delighted to be presented with six awards at the Shropshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs' annual meeting which was held at the weekend at Shrewsbury Town Football Ground.
The club has had one of its most successful years, having also been placed third at the annual county rally in June, and has shown how proactive its 60 members are.
Dorrington provides a varied club programme to its members to encourage involvement from everyone. We meet on Wednesday evenings and upcoming activities include sausage making, a Kuhn machinery tour, and a curry and quiz night.
The awards were presented at the annual meeting which saw the handover from county chairlady Rebecca Green to incoming chairlady Clarrie Hocknell.
Dorrington was awarded the Competitions Shield, Junior Sports Cup, five-a-side-football trophy and Press and Promotions Shield. Individual members to be recognised were Chris Potter with Stockman of the Year, and Joe Ashley with Junior Member of the Year.
The YFC calendar is very hectic all year round, with a weekend rarely being free from either a competition, social or charity event. I think it’s not stated enough just how much time and the miles YFC members put in to get involved in all activities. The saying goes though ‘the more you put in, the more you get out’ which is something that definitely shows as you get older.
You don’t have to be from an agricultural background to join the YFC. Anyone from the age of 10 to 26 is welcome! For more information about joining contact me, club chairman Laura Wilde, on 07854 931467.
