Smell worry over chicken farm bid

A proposed chicken farm near Nesscliffe would cause unacceptable odours, an objector has said.

North Farm has applied to Shropshire Council for planning permission for four units on its land.

In a letter to the council the Geddes family says the area is already saturated with chicken farms giving out the odour depending on which way the wind blows.

It says a third of the manure from the farm will have to be stored until it can be spread on fields and ploughed in.

"If it is stored on the farm that will produce odour that has not been taken into consideration," says the letter.

The applicants say that an assessment has shown that the odour is within limits.

Shropshire Council will look at the application in the coming weeks.
