Often farmers are seen as custodians of the environment and therefore AHDB aims to help farmers and growers understand the importance of sustainable farming and making sure their business works in harmony with the environment.

Did you know that grassland captures carbon and stores it? This is why AHDB’s five year strategy has a key focus on grassland management and helping support farmers and growers, particularly livestock farmers, to understand their soils and manage their land in a way that is both beneficial to the environment and their farming business.

In many cases improved farm efficiency and a reduction in their carbon footprint go hand in hand. More information can be found on the AHDB website.

AHDB has just run its first Carbon Week, a series of webinars and panel discussions, podcast and digital information, aimed specifically at farmers and growers interested in understanding more about the carbon cycle, carbon auditing, reducing emissions and the opportunities around this.

This will be my last column in the Shropshire Star for AHDB, as I move to a new role in the beef industry. Thanks for reading!
