Top speakers at our virtual conference
I hope many Shropshire farmers and growers were able to join us for our annual conference, NFU Live 2021.
The event was held virtually but we had speeches and presentations from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, leader of the Opposition Sir Keir Starmer and Secretaries of State George Eustice and Liz Truss – there are very few organisations or institutions that could command a speaker line-up like that.
Clearly at the front of speakers’ and delegates’ minds were the opportunities and challenges from EU exit and future trading relationships around the world as well as the new Agricultural Transition Plan and new subsidy and farm policy landscape.
Using our conference launch pad, the NFU released its latest campaigning report Levelling up Rural Britain, which highlights how British farming and rural Britain can provide the solution to many of the challenges the nation faces.
Further details on the report are available at www.nfuonline.com but please explore the report as it will be at the centre of much of our local lobbying in the months ahead.
The importance of a thriving rural economy and establishing the various enablers to business growth in the countryside remain some of our top priorities.
