Rural tourism will bounce back

Spring is my favourite time of year, though I still haven’t worked out whether it’s the season itself or the anticipation of summer that will soon be here.

Either way, my whole mood lifts as soon as the clocks go forward and the lighter evenings give me more time to enjoy my favourite Tanners tipple al fresco.

The tourism industry has been particularly hard hit during Covid and there is an unfortunate irony to those who have diversified their farm businesses into tourism for a more “secure” income stream. But, with the roadmap to freedom seemingly on course, there is little doubt that rural tourism will return stronger than ever.

My advice would be to not only prepare your accommodation for the influx of those who are understandably desperate to enjoy what many of us take for granted, but also take the time to think about how you can help them enjoy the countryside safely and responsibility.

Tell them about the countryside code, explain to them the issues of uncontrolled dogs and how to correctly interact with livestock. This will not only prevent the issues we saw when the last lockdown came to an end but will increase your guests' appreciation, understanding and enjoyment.
