Valais Blacknose Society Central Club hold event in Shropshire

 The Foot Care Workshop included an presentation from Rumenco, on the importance of mineral supplementation for hoof and horn, pre tupping and pre lambing emphasising the importance of minerals for hill sheep.

Adam Reeves, from Manor Farm Vets, Eccleshall, who has a particular interest in sheep, gave an excellent talk, on lameness, foot problems, treatments, and medication advice. 

Vanessa Hallett, and Phil Garrod  then gave a practical demonstration on trimming and treating feet, on sheep from the Wildheart and Puddle Lane Flocks.

 Phil, a VBS Council Member, Judge and Grader, also shared his knowledge on trimming feet for grading and showing. Refreshments and a light lunch was provided for guests that travelled from as far away as Norwich to enjoy the day.

On the back of the success the club intends to press ahead and hold regular events.

Event organiser, Karen McQuattie said. "With the increase in popularity of the breed, the workshops are invaluable for new breeders and smallholders, as well as for the management and welfare of this friendly and loveable breed of sheep."
