Go-ahead given for £1m Cleobury Mortimer medical centre
A new, £1 million health centre for Shropshire has been given the go-ahead. Shropshire Primary Care Trust has granted permission for the new centre in Cleobury Mortimer.
News of the project was welcomed as a wonderful Christmas present for the town. The centre will be built on the former Muller England site and the news comes more than a year after a land sale deal was agreed.
Developer Matrix Medical said then that it would only complete a £170,000 deal to buy the land to build the medical practice once funding had been agreed.
Primary Care Trust members made the decision at a meeting on Wednesday.
Liz Welsh, Shropshire County PCT's Senior Commissioning Manager for Primary Care Contracts, said: "We are pleased to confirm that our board members have agreed the application for funding which will enable the practice to go ahead with the replacement surgery.
"We recognise the benefits that this development will bring to patients in providing quality care and appropriate facilities. We look forward to seeing the new premises once completed."
Today Councillor Gwilym Butler said it was great news for Cleobury.
"Funding for the new medical centre agreed is such a great Christmas present for the town. I am so pleased after such a long journey there is just the planning permission now which we shall hopefully see early in the spring."
Officials at Shropshire County Primary Care Trust pledged to fund the project for the medical practice in March last year.
Work could start in May or June and take about a year. The new practice will replace the surgery at Pinkham, which staff say is cramped and no longer fit for purpose.
