Former Shrewsbury ambulance station to be sold-off
A deal has been reached to sell off a former Shropshire former ambulance station to a private buyer for an undisclosed fee.
A sign has been erected outside the redundant former ambulance hub in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, stating that the site has been acquired for clients of chartered surveyor firm Towler Shaw Roberts.
West Midlands Ambulance Service expects to generate about £1.13 million savings by selling stations in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Craven Arms and Whitchurch, in addition to £2 million in "staff efficiency" savings across the region.
The sale is officially expected to go through on Wednesday and is likely to result in a change-of-use planning application submitted to Shropshire Council.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said today: "Sale negotiations are concluding and it is expected to go through in the near future."
Shropshire councillor Hannah Fraser, for the Abbey ward, said: "Everybody seems to think it will go for housing but talk has died down about it recently.
"It is empty land at the moment but quite a large site so if it were to go for housing I would imagine residents would be concerned about traffic and parking.
"We could do with a bit more green space in Abbey Foregate so I would welcome anything that promotes public open space."
The site was closed down in January to make way for Shropshire's new £1.2 million ambulance station hub at Abella Business Centre, in Shrewsbury.
