The Ferns residential home in Shrewsbury, Maer Lane in Market Drayton and Stretton Hall nursing home in All Stretton, near Church Stretton, have all been given an overall "good" rating from the Care Quality Commission.

The Ferns and Stretton Hall received good ratings across the board in all categories, while Maer Lane was judged to be well led, effective, caring and responsive to its residents, but was told it had to improve on safety.

An inspectors report said the Market Drayton home, which provides accommodation and personal care for up to nine people who have a learning disability, had been inspected on April 10 and fell down on carrying out checks on staff.

It said: "Appropriate pre-employment checks had not always been completed on prospective staff, before they were allowed to start work with people."

But, the inspector added: "Staff understood how to recognise and report abuse. The risks associated with people's care and support had been assessed, recorded and plans implemented to manage these risks. Systems and procedures were in place to ensure people received their medicines safely and as prescribed."

The Ferns, on Longden Road, Shrewsbury, which accommodates up to 36 older people who need help with personal care, was inspected on April 21.

Stretton Hall, on Shrewsbury Road, All Stretton, which provides accommodation, nursing and personal care for up to 50 older people, some of whom have dementia, was inspected on April 25.

Neither were found to have any issues.
