Antenatal and postnatal services remain at Oswestry MLU

The trust which runs Shropshire's two main hospitals has stressed that antenatal and postnatal services are still available at Oswestry's midwife-led unit, despite it being temporarily closed to births.

The maternity unit will be closed to births until 8am on February 25.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs the service, says the measure has been taken to ensure women's safety.

The trust says the unit will still remain open between 8am and 8pm for antenatal and postnatal services, but will not be able to accept inpatients.

Hospital bosses say more women are giving birth at the consultant-led unit and there have only been about 10 births at the rural maternity units, in Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, since full services resumed on New Year's Day.

The rural maternity units closed to births last year due to staffing issues.
