Taking the reins for ponies’ visit to Shrewsbury care home - with video and pictures
Residents at a Shrewsbury care home were treated to the clip-clopping of little hoofs as Shetland pony duo Lollipop and Tinkerbell trotted in for an afternoon visit.
The two ponies were visiting the Uplands nursing home at Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, where they were introduced to residents across the home.
Activities co-ordinator from the Uplands, Fiona Glover, said the ponies proved a huge hit with the residents who were invited to stroke them.
“Lollipop and Tinkerbell were really gentle and being Shetland ponies were at a perfect height for residents to stroke them,” said Fiona.
“Our residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting them – they find stroking animals both stimulating and calming, and it is something we encourage when animals and other creatures are brought in.
“This was the first visit from Lollipop and Tinkerbell but hopefully not the last."
The two ponies were accompanied by Petay Wheeler and her daughter Jamie from Lollipop Pony Parties, which is based near Birmingham.
“The ponies always get a really good response when we visit care homes,” said Petay.
“Residents seem to be able to communicate with them just by stroking them, and that gives them a great deal of pleasure.”
