Oswestry's orthopaedic hospital invests £500,000 in 200 new beds

Patients and visitors at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) are advised that one of the visitor car parks will be out of use for part of the weekend – as the hospital takes a delivery of the new beds.

In order for the delivery to be made, the east entrance car park – opposite the midwife-led maternity unit – will be closed from 7am today until Sunday morning.

Today, the east entrance car park will be partially closed, while tomorrow all of it will be shut off to allow for the delivery of the beds.

Linda Head, moving and handling co-ordinator at the trust, said: “To ensure the trust is fit for the 21st century which concurs with a 'world renowned centre of excellence in orthopaedics’ the procurement of modern beds and new mattresses has been essential.

“At a time when there is high demand for financing projects, it is reassuring that the trust has recognised this need as we pursue the goal to provide the best quality care for all of our patients.

“The right beds will assist in providing a safe environment for our patients, improve clinical efficacy and help reduce the risk of injuries to both patients and staff.”

Bev Tabernacle, director of nursing and deputy chief executive, said: “These beds are a wonderful investment and will make a real difference to our patients and how comfortable they are while they’re here with us.

“Delivery of the beds will unfortunately mean some disruption and for that we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused but I’m sure you’ll agree the end result is certainly worthwhile for our patients.

“We hope that by planning the delivery of the beds for the weekend, we will minimise the impact on site visitors – and there should still be plenty of spaces in our other patient car parks.”
