Shropshire health staff raise funds for Sport Relief with dry triathlon

Running, cycling and rowing was on the agenda for health commissioners who took part in a 125-mile dry triathlon to raise money for Sport Relief.

More than a dozen members of staff from Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) took on the challenge.

It saw them collectively row five miles, cycle 100 miles and then tackle a 20 mile run.

The event took place at the Horsehay Golf and Fitness Centre on Thursday.

Cycling enthusiasts within the CCG designed the triathlon so that staff could take part, doing as little or as much as they felt able to.

Some staff joined together in teams to complete this daunting challenge.

David Evans, chief officer for Telford and Wrekin CCG, said: “It’s been great to see the enthusiasm and care shown by our staff, whether they have been taking part in the dry triathlon or just cheering us on every step of the way.

"Collectively we expect to have raised nearly £150 for Sport Relief and travelled a total of 125 miles by running, cycling and rowing.

“As part of our health and wellbeing strategy, we are actively supporting staff to consider their physical and mental wellbeing at work and home.

"It is well known that by giving up your time to help others you are not only benefitting the wider community, but also supporting your own mental wellbeing.

"We would encourage all employers to consider how they can support staff to be healthy at work."
