Nurses are urged to try recruitment day at Oswestry orthopaedic hospital

Nurses interested in a career at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital are being encouraged to attend a special recruitment day later this month.

The event will be held between 9.30am and 1pm on April 22 at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) near Oswestry.

The main entrance of the hospital will be transformed into a hub for visiting nurses to meet and chat with the teams.

The day will provide the opportunity for potential staff members to take a tour of the hospital, undertake assessments and even be interviewed on the day – if people have registered their interest before the event. If successful, they could leave the hospital with offers of employment.

Experienced, newly-qualified and student nurses who are qualifying this year are invited to attend the recruitment day. It follows a similar event last November last year, when 21 nurses went home with the offer of a new job.

Bev Tabernacle, director of nursing, is hoping to see a good turnout of nurses on the day. She said: “RJAH is a truly wonderful place to be a nurse and we want to demonstrate that as part of our upcoming recruitment day.

Compassion

“We want nurses who show compassion and exhibit the behaviours which will enable them to deliver excellent care to our patients.

“We advertise roles in the usual way on our NHS jobs page all the time, but we wanted to meet as many nurses as possible throughout the day, and hopefully provide them with an offer of employment following assessment on the day through this ‘one-stop shop’ style of event.

“This is the perfect way to invite people in and give them a taste of what’s on offer. We want to show nurses how great it is to work here and let them see for themselves how we maintain a high level of patient care.”

Sue Pryce, from deputy director of human resources, said: “WIn recent months we’ve held a number of recruitment events and have found them to be a fantastic way of showcasing what we do for staff in terms of careers and development opportunities. Sometimes an advert in the paper or on a website doesn’t do it justice.

“We always want to hear from potential staff members, through recruitment events or otherwise. There are always new opportunities appearing here at RJAH, if you check the NHS jobs page regularly.”
