Health chiefs raise 'significant concerns' after Shropshire inspection findings
Health chiefs say they have "significant concerns" over a health watchdog's findings at the trust running Shropshire's two main hospitals.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) took urgent enforcement action against Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) last week following an inspection.
The regulator has put conditions on the trust in how it handles patients with sepsis and other deteriorating conditions, and environmental safety in Telford’s A&E.
David Evans, chief officer of Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group, told a CCG board meeting yesterday that commissioners understand the action was taken as it was proving difficult to get patients on trolleys in and out of a particular area of A&E due to equipment being in the way.
He said the other condition related to a particular patient who had not had an assessment for sepsis carried out within an hour.
He said the CCG was in discussions with the trust, which runs both Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.
Mr Evans said: "We have significant concerns around the findings of the CQC and clearly where there are quality of care and safety issues we are having urgent discussions with the trust to assure ourselves that patients are receiving the appropriate safe care."
