Friends of the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford operate the cafe and donates profits towards vital equipment, but is running short of volunteers due to illness.

A previous appeal attracted 36 new volunteers in total, but 23 of them were a no show in the end.

Friends' secretary Jo Bradley said: "We did recruit 36 the last time, but despite our efforts more than 20 of them never took it up in the end.

"We've had quite a few long standing volunteers who have passed away in the last 12 months while others are unwell. We could do with new people coming on board.

"We have had requests for equipment from the hospital staff. We have raised thousands of pounds worth of items to assist over the years."

Helpers will be required for two hours per week.

"If you are newly retired and spare just two hours a week, we would love you to come and join us. You can make new friends and you will enjoy meeting our customers," she said.

Potential volunteers should call into the coffee shop or telephone 01952 641222 ext 4721 and ask for the manager.

New dialysis chairs for the renal unit are among the items funded in recent years.
