Hospitals' multi-million repair backlog
Hospitals in Shropshire have a backlog of nearly £67 million worth of repair work, it is revealed today.
The figures show that NHS organisations across the county need to spend a total of £72.4 million bringing its buildings and equipment up to scratch.
The bulk of this came at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospital at Telford, where a total of £54.5 million worth of repairs were identified.
The data, obtained from the NHS, relates to the 12-month period up to March of this year. It also shows that the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital trust in Gobowen had an outstanding repair bill of £10.7 million.
Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, which runs the Bishop's Castle, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Whitchurch Community hospitals, had a maintenance backlog of £1.6 million.
The former South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare trust had a repair backlog of £5.6 million.
The trust – which has since merged with the neighbouring Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent trust – was responsible for running the Redwoods Centre mental health village at Bicton Heath in Shrewsbury.
